Free For You Because, Well, Free For Me ($65!)

*This giveaway is now closed.*

Here's the deal. Dining Rooms Direct contacted me about having a giveaway for you. I was about to kindly reply, "no thanks, I'm limiting my reviews/giveaways" when what they wanted to give away caught my eye. A $65 gift certificate. I figured you all might like that, so I said, "let's do it!" They are also sending me one of these Coffee Serving Sets, and since I don't have one, it was a bit of a motivator to let them plug their site.

FYI - I am only planning on doing giveaways that I think are worth giving up blog space for.

With all that said, let me introduce you to Dining Rooms Direct, an online store that sells more than dining room sets (thank goodness, because otherwise $65 wouln't get you very far!).

They sell this cute little number (this is what I'm getting):

And this kids snack set...

Pillows...
Plates...

And these fun placemats...

The above items, part of the notNeutral collection, are some of my favorite items, but you can use the $65 gift certificate for anything you want on their site! They have bedding, home decor, and you guessed it, dining room furniture!

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment.

Really, that's it.

But try and be somewhat creative...you know, not just "enter me please, thanks!"

I mean, I'll still let it be counted, but it's so not fun...and you know me, I like fun.

:)

Contest will be open until 9pm Eastern time on Sunday the 26th. Winner will be announced on Monday.

Saturday Score! Get Biggies Wall Stickies!

The winner of last week's L. Herbert Designs Art prints are...Tobie of Tobie's Tall Tales & Tiny Truths! Yay!

Today's Saturday Score is...

Biggies Wall Stickies!

"Ahhhhhhhh.....butterflies! Butterflies, butterflies, butterflies!" My two year old was clearly ecstatic when we showed off the Biggies Wall Stickies (Biggies Innovations) that we had put into his and his sisters bedroom (she picked butterflies and it will eventually be her and her sister's room, so butterflies it was!). He was literally amazed - it was so cute! He had the biggest smile on his face just looking all around the room at all the different big butterflies! My little girl liked them as well. She took in all the insect glory with a quiet sweetness...and a big smile. "Thank you mommy for the butterflies."

Bedroom before (boooooring):

After...

Super fun and colorful!

Cool, huh?!

These wall stickes are such a cinch to put on - just peel and stick - no "bubbles" or anything. If you change your mind about where you want them, they easily pull right off with no damage to your wall or the stickies. They also have more then butterfly stickies - they have dinosaurs, planets, insects, pets, and flowers! They don't skimp either - we got nine big butterflies in our Biggies Wall Stickies pack.

Biggies Innovations is super generous! They are giving THREE SETS OF WALL STICKIES away, which means that there will be THREE WINNERS!!! The sets that are up for grabs are: butterflies, pets and dinosaurs. (This company also makes Wall Murals, "Swipe-Offs," Window Well Scenes and "Design-a-Signs.")

Saturday Score! Charming Art Prints From L. Herbert Designs!

First things first - the winner of the BabyLegs giveaway is...

Heathahlee, of Butterfly Genes! Haha! She is the gal who makes those lovely tassels and gave one away a couple weeks ago - now she's a winner herself! You know what to do friend!

Today's Saturday Score is...

A delightful art print from L. Herbert Designs!
(Specifically, the winner will get to choose either two 5 X 7 prints or one 8x10 print!)

This gal can go from a whimsical and charming creation to a simple and chic piece of art! Take a look:

(my favs below)

Amazing, right?! Those birds are going to go right by my desk!

Here is what Laryssa has to say about her art prints: "My prints are special, because they are truly hand made! I paint the originals and my husband and I cut the paper, make the giclee prints, package and mail them all ourselves.

You can’t get these prints in any big box store. I really like unique art for my home, but I don’t like the outrageous prices that most artists charge! That’s why I’ve priced my artwork affordability. I want the paintings in your hands, so you can enjoy them!"

Now, I have to tell you, I am especially fond of Laryssa and her art because she is one of Like A Warm Cup Of Coffee's sponsors. It means a great deal to me when someone thinks enough of my blog to want to invest in it...and I am honored to be promoting her business!

To Enter The Giveaway:

  • Take a few minutes to peruse her art prints, then come on back and tell me which print you would like if you win.
  • For TRIPLE entries, post about this giveaway on your blog and leave the link in the comments.

Dream: A Daisy Field

Emily Rose and I both share a dream...

"It has been a dream of mine since I was very young to have a field filled with daisies, one where I could sit and read, run or walk through, as well as photograph.

One day I hope to find that field . . .

. . . but for now I’m content with my little patch of daisies." -Emily Rose

The above picture was taken by Miss Emily Rose, and it inspires me. It's simplicity fills me with tranquility. It takes me to a field where I am lying under the wild blue and feeling my God in the wind.

I enjoy this picture so much that I am entering it into the UPrinting summer photo contest. I really want her to win because she has such talent - just take a peek at her other photos! If this photo wins, she nabs $250 plus her photo blown up to a 16x20" Gallery Wrapped Canvas Print.

If you look over on my left hand sidebar you will see that UPrinting sponsors Like A Warm Cup Of Coffee. I sincerely appreciate them and how they treat bloggers. I know they sponsor a few other blogs, and what impresses me the most is how generous they are and how respectful they are with regards to what we (bloggers) do. I HIGHLY recommend them if you want business cards to promote your blog, you want your beautiful family pictures blown up, or you need any other type of "media." (Keep your eyes out for a giveaway soon!)

"UPrinting.com is a leading online provider of business cards, color brochures and mailing postcards."

I look forward to showing you the business cards they are making for me!
Now, if you think that the daisy photo is worthy of such an honor, would you kindly leave a comment about it? I really want to encourage Emily Rose in her lovely photography. Thank you!

I’ve got to get out of myself
out of these walls of skin and bone
I am stuck
struck with the urge to flee
free
the spirit in me
and jump
into the wild blue

Articles I'm Reading This Week...

Luther in the Parliament to Worms, Anton von Werner

In Defense Of Sola Scriptura (10 Part Series)
“If it ain’t in the Bible, I don’t believe it.” Have you ever heard said that? How about this one: “The Bible says it, I believe it, that settles it.” You might have that bumper sticker. Why not? Doesn’t this represent the glory of the Protestant Reformation’s elevation of Scripture to a position of the sole source of authority in the Christian’s life? Don’t these pithy statements represent the best of what it means to adhere to the doctrine of sola Scriptura? No, they don’t."

How Do We Know Which Scriptures Are Applicable Today And Which Should Be Considered Culturally Irrelevant?
"I think there are principles that can help us answer almost all the questions, and then there are going to be some gray areas. "

Amazing Blogs: The 1-2-3 Plan Every Blogger Should Know

The "Mommy, I'm Bored" Box

American Capitalism Gone With A Whimper
"It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people."

What I'm Listening To...
Why We Believe The Bible, Part 1
"Okay, I'm staking my eternity on this [the bible] - why?"

“There is no such thing as truth,” they teach even the little ones. “Truth is bondage. Believe what seems right to you. There are as many truths as there are individuals. Follow your feelings. Do as you please. Get in touch with yourself. Do what feels comfortable.” Those who speak this way prepare the jails of the twenty-first century. They do the work of tyrants.

Growing Your Blog - My Top Five Tips For "Successful" Blogging

I have been getting emails from many of you asking my advice on how to gain readership and grow your blog. While I am no expert, I will share what I have found to be most effective (or at least what seems to have been working for me!).

My Top Five Tips For Growing Your Blog (or, at least what I've learned so far!)

Content

If you've ever Googled how to grow your blog (increase traffic, readership, etc.), you will almost always find an article that says, "Content is King." There are already top-notch articles out there on writing good content (see bottom of post), so I will just add my two cents. Be passionate about what you write about, keep your articles around 500 words (unless exploring a topic that needs more depth), bold things that you really want to stand out (many people just skim an article, plus it makes it interesting), and either make people laugh, think, or "do".

Design

If you are serious about growing your blog, you might want to consider getting a designer so you stand out from other blogs (or whip up some design magic of your own!). I would also add that a nice, clean-looking blog is usually best. Stay away from too much clutter on the sidebars.

If you would like to talk with a designer, I recommend Simply Vintage Girl Designs (my darling designer), Extravagant Grace Designs, and APH Boutique. (Don't have the $ to use a designer, check out the offer at the bottom of today's post!)

Guest Posting

If you have great content but no one around to read it, the "king" is dead. One of the best ways to get your content out there is to guest post for other bloggers and have them guest post for you. Check out my article "Want More Traffic & Subscribers? Guest Post!" for more details about guest posting and how to go about it.

Prompts

People may love your blog, but many times once they leave it, they will forget about it, especially if they have kids {ahem}. Prompt them to subscribe to your blog (or follow you on Twitter, etc.) so they can be "reminded" to visit you.

Give It To God

If you are a Christian, I cannot stress this one enough. Unless God blesses it, forget it, you'll just be working in vain. Give your blog to the Lord and let Him be in control of what happens with it.

"Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it." Psalm 127:1

Well, there you have it. Simple and straightforward.

You can also read this post for blogging tips from successful bloggers, blogging time managment, getting free stuff, and making money.

Anything you'd like to add?

Some Articles I've Been Reading...

The Real Woman's Liberation Movement: Christianity, By Stacey McDonald
Many feminists rant about the oppression biblical teaching places upon women; but, Christianity is what freed us from that oppression!

Does The Bible Allow For Divorce In The Case Of Adultery? By John Piper
I don't think so. I don't think the Bible allows divorce and remarriage ever while the spouse is living. That's my radical, crazy, conservative, narrow, hard-nosed, very needed view in our divorce-happy culture.

Life with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: The Verbally Abusive Marriage, By Dr. David Hawkins

Kari crumpled to the floor, oblivious to the fact that their two children were quietly sitting in their rooms, praying the fighting would stop.

The Divine Appointment, by June Fuentes
Here is how to pray---why not start praying for that sweet, warm little bundle in your arms by starting at the top of their little heads and working right down their body

If you are a mom, you will want this book.

Trust me.

Encouraging, practical, truth-filled, light-hearted, conversational and right on, Real Moms...Real Jesus is like a warm cup of coffee (hehe...). She's solid ya'll.

You can find her at Hearts at Home or her personal blog and check her out for yourself if you'd like.

So, what exactly is the score today? Three (that's right, THREE) copies of her book!

Ever Wonder The Difference Between Veteran's Day & Memorial Day?

"The patriot’s blood is the seed of Freedom’s tree." ~Thomas Campbell

What is the difference between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day?

Memorial Day and Veterans Day have everything to do with honoring the living and the dead. Both observances are intended to honor military personnel, but Veterans Day pays homage to all Americans who have worn the nation’s military uniforms, both living and dead, while Memorial Day is a day to remember all U.S. military personnel who died in wars or other military actions.

Memorial Day Facts
  • Memorial Day was declared a federal holiday in 1971.
  • The south refused to honor the dead on Memorial Day until after World War I when the meaning of Memorial Day changed from honoring civil war dead to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war.
  • New York was the 1st state to officially recognize Memorial Day.
  • On Memorial Day, the American flag is flown at half-staff until noon and then raised to full staff.
  • Red Poppies are recognized as the Memorial Day flower (represents the blood shed by soldiers).
  • A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3 p.m Eastern Time.

Freedom Is Not Free
By LCDR Kelly Strong, USCG - Copyright 1981

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Service man saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.

I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.
