Day 17 - The Laundry Room

31 Days to Clean

When was the last time you cleaned off the tops of your washer and dryer? How about the little cartridges that hold the detergent and the good stuff (Downy April Fresh...sooo...goood)? Organized your laundry "tools"? How about just cleaning up around your washer and dryer?

If you were to walk into my basement, you would see clothes piled up all around my washer and dryer. You would also notice some hair right on top of the washer along with dust and detergent drippings. My laundry "room" (which isn't really a room, but rather a space in the basement that invades my husbands "game" space) is a mess. Even though I have a new washer and dryer (with a stand - thank you sweetie!) they already need a good scrub down! I also need to organize the area and sort the laundry (yes, I still have more to do, even though I did do four loads yesterday!).

Today, let's clean our laundry rooms! Whether you have a closet, a basement space, or an actual room, let's get them all cleaned up, organized, and ready for the loads to come!

"It's not so much how busy you are, but why you are busy. The bee is praised. The mosquito is swatted." Mary O'Connor

One more thing; with all this cleaning going on it's easy to forget why we clean in the first place. Maybe you clean because of your personality, or maybe because "someone has to do it." But let's not forget that our real purpose is eternal. Everything we're doing that seems mundane is important - to our children, our husbands, and to God.

I thought I had it made with this challenge at first. I just cleaned and wiped down my washer and dryer yesterday. They are stacked, so they are too tall to pile things on. I've a nice little laundry sorting area with baskets for whites, color, special, etc., etc. Then I remembered...the shelving above those baskets. It's a real mess. I'll work on getting that done. Thanks for the reminder :)

Sarah,

I just came across your blog and I'm really enjoying it! However, I am most excited that you went to Penn State (Go Lions!!) and that you play Settlers of Catan. I'm from PA (sister went to PSU - I went to IUP)and now I make my home in Michigan. Still the loudest PSU fan in the neighborhood.

Oh man! I was just noticing how disgusting my laundry room was this morning. I have all your messes and plenty more!

When I get home from work at noon, I'm going to tackle this room, even if it kills me!

Thanks for the reminder. My stackable washer/dryer are actually in my kitchen, so I probably wipe them down more often than most people do. But they still get gunky..and I've been noticing they need attention lately.

I am ahead on this one. Sounds hard to believe, but my son decided to take on the laundry room as a project last week (yes, it is strange). He totally cleaned the washer and dryer, organized what had been on top, pulled everything out of the room, vacuumed, mopped, etc. Crazy!! It looks great. But, I have cupboards above there that I haven't touched - so that gives me something to do. :)

I did my laundry room about two months ago and I'm so proud to say that it's still clean!

I did a little organizing and it has gone a long way! I posted a few pics on my blog...nothing extravagant, simple works best for me.

I have enjoyed following along your 31 Days to Clean, but I'll admit, I've mostly been reading what you do instead of taking action! :)

Congrats on your news!!! How exciting to add to your family!

I, too, was thinking yesterday how my laundry room needed cleaning. No, cleaning isn't a strong enough word...anyway, thanks for the reminder!

I wanted my back entry to look nicer when coming in from work.

Love this idea and the way the cleaning is broken up into smaller pieces. Lucky me, I just cleaned my laudry room last week. LOL.
