We've all seen them.
Many of us use them.
But is it always worth it?
Google ads...the fast track to making a couple bucks (or perhaps thousands of bucks). Just one little itsty bitsy problem...
You don't have much control over them.
For example, when I did my modesty series, I put google ads up and they were pretty good. I found out about some great modesty shops, and I'm sure some of you did as well. However, a couple times some ads came up that directed people to immodest shops. When I started talking about marriage, I knew I had to make a decision about the ads because I started seeing ads for places to cheat on your spouse. Hmmm...not exactly something I want to support...let alone promote!
I had to decide if it was really worth it...was I willing to promote something I didn't believe in to make money?
Nope, I wasn't...and I'm not.
Check out your google ads. Many of them are harmless, but take note of them just in case because you may also have to make a decision.
What would you do if ads that you didn't support came up? What will you do?

Oooh great advice. I've considered doing this, in the past. But this confirmed the decision for me. You can't put a price on standing up for the Truth.
This is a very good point. And so far I have been lucky and havent had any ads that were bad. But I will definetly keep my eyes open to the situation and pull them asap if they do appear.
When I first started blogging, at the encouragement of some church friends, we started on Xanga......but many questionable things came up....and I quit. Then I started again on Blogger....so yes, you do have to question the things that are linked to your blog--good thoughts!

I've noticed this, too. It really isn't worth it to me. Thanks for bringing it up :)
Such a valuable insight. I believe we are responsible for the things we (even unknowingly) promote. It's all about being a "stumbling block"...and you just never know. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Blessings!
Good for you! It's great that you stand up for what you believe!
I don't have any ads on my site. I probably wouldn't mind...but I think I'd rather have the control!
I use Blogher for my ads and they let you be very specific about what you do and do not want on your site. Right before the election ads started getting really crazy they even sent me an email asking if I'd like to review my profile to make sure I only got the ads that were appropriate to me. You might want to check it out if you want to continue to do ads.
Oh, thanks for the pointer! I'll have to watch mine; since I just added them to the sidebar. Mine allows for editing, though. (I just can't be lazy and ignore it!) Perhaps they added that since you used them?
I just started blogging and don't have adds on my site. After reading your thoughts I may not use them at all. Thanks for the insight.
Considered them for a while now and I am so grateful to you for giving your opinion
Nope, not worth it to me either
Good point - haven't noticed any problem with mine, but not having control isn't good. I have also looked into Blogher ads and you can be very specific, listing companies you don't want to promote and subjects you don't want and you can make the list as long as you want, I believe! I may do that instead (not that I am making any money from it, so don't even know whether to bother.).
