A Homemade Christmas - Pillows From Placemats!

Have you ever made pillows from placemats? Well, if you haven't, you're missing out! I first came across the idea of using placemats for pillows here (check out some very cute "placemat" pillows). Cute and inexpensive - count me in! I decided to look at the Dollar Tree for some cloth placemats I could use. Check these out (only a buck each baby!):

With a little work...

Face the right sides together (the cute sides) and pin

Sew all around leaving about a four inch space to put the stuffing in.
Cut off the corners (I wish I had a picture but my camera battery died - go figure!)
Turn the pillow right side out and then stuff it nice and full! Whip stitch the opening closed and...
Voila! Super cute pillows:

Oh wow, that is genius!

Know what else you could do that with? Cute kitchen towels/ tea towels!

Oh I am never going to look at a placemat the same way again.

Those are sew, sew cute! (get it??) I wish I could actually sew with a machine. I hand sew everything. I can not work the machine. Can't do it! What a great idea!!

Absolutely adorable!!!Where did the placemats come from? I will have to remember this. This would work well for just about any kind of pillow. Jackie

have you ever tried making purses from placemats? Just fold one in half and add ribbon for the handles.

I need a sewing machine! Although now is likely not the time to learn how to sew! I did make an apron in high school though! :)

I am due March 31st, but she can't get here soon enough--we can't wait to meet her! Do you have a name picked out yet? We are finding it to be so hard!

I stumbled upon you and was just getting ready to sew a Christmas Apron. I have two pillows that are in desperate need of recovering. Thanks for the easy and inexpensive way to do it~

i'm thinking i would probably get frustrated over the thickness of the seams and over needles breaking... perhaps i'll try using christmas handtowels or napkins.

Those are really cute. I like the reindeer as a pillow better than a placemat.
