"Soup Line" Follow-Up

It seems like quite a few of you are affected by the economic crisis, especially when it comes to your husband's jobs. I feel like a jerk for even asking my questions because I realize now that many people are hurting. My prayers go out to your families.

I think on Monday I am going to start a series on Saving Money/Budgeting/Giving generously. My husband has taught me so much, and going from being a spoiled young lady to a "poor" woman, I have truly learned how to save and budget (even though I'm certainly not perfect at it!) I have also come across some amazing organizations and resources that I'd love to share.

What do you think?

I jumped over to you from Stacey's blog. I do hope you will continue with your ideas. We need all we can get.

Fortunately in our home we have not been struggling. But seeing what is going on these days is VERY scary and I want to make good choices!

I would LOVE to see some of what you have to offer. I'm always looking for ways to trim our budget. Currently we try to do cash only for non fixed expenses (which get checks written for). Plus, we tithe, we save, we give. I'd love it!

I found you through Debbie J's blog. My family lives on a very very tight budget. But I know we are not alone.

I appreciate your humility in your post. On one hand I agreed with your former post because I don't think things are as bad as they could be - and perhaps they will get even more difficult. On the other hand many really are struggling.

To be honest, it's a time for people to become less materialistic and more content with what they already have. Although there are some who have been affected beyond their control, there are many who have been affected because of poor choices and greed.

It's a time for all of us to keep learning so we can make the best choices for our families. What matters is having each other. Forget about the big houses, cars and stuff.

I'm looking forward to your future posts!

I think it's a wonderful idea! At this point my husband and I are blessed with good jobs that we were assured were not going anywhere...but one never knows and the more we can learn before we need to know it the easier life will be, so thank you.

Sarah Mae you are awesome! Thank you for creating such a great place to "meet" online, share your views and actually attempt to help each other! I usually don't comment. I just read and learn. It helps me to see how others feel. The "Soup Line" prompted me to share and I'm so glad that I did. What you are doing is a perfect way for us to help each other. I'm working on coupons right now. I'm also trying to "purge" my household. I am cleaning out and posting what I no longer need or use on EBay. One of the wise ladies posted that we need to forget about the big houses and big cars and I couldn't agree more. Think about how out of control the Holiday season has become. It's a HUGE expense for us! (Mostly due to pressure from extended families, etc. - whole different can of worms!!) Is that really what it is about? I think we all need to get back to basics and put our love of God and our families first. In the end isn't it better to have raised a wonderful human being rather than have all the biggest and best toys?
I'm so glad I found your blog! It sounds like I am not alone in how I feel about priorities. Let me tell you in the city I live in it sure feels like I am alone! I think your ideas are great and I will definitely be tuning in during my spare time between naps, school runs, cooking, cleaning and most importantly playing with the kids!

Looking forward to Monday! We can all use some money saving tips. Maybe even a Linky to survey others???

This is such a good and timely idea. My husband and I were just talking about this subject this morning. As of right now we both are employed and so nothing has totally changed for us, but that could change in an instant like it has for so many others.

I too think that it's time we all get our priorities back in alignment. All the "stuff" we have that is totally not necessary and has truly started bothering me.

I will definitely stick around to see what you have to say.

I was going to do a few posts on that topic as well, but since you and Stacey are doing them...I will wait, and finally get to my designer duds on a dime series. :) I guess that still fits.
Do you love me even though you don't have your mixes. I have them all out, I just want to wrap them really pretty and it's not happening. They are coming!
