Day 2 - The "Six Most Important Things" List

My before and after pics...

The kitchen - oh I dread cleaning thee...
But you clean up so well!
It alwasy feels good to clean out the fridge...
and then go shopping to fill it up!

Just because...it's so good!
(I love you creamer)

And in honor of the fly lady...

my shiny sink!

I have something to be thankful for my Mary Kay days (yes, I used to be a Mary Kay Lady)! The "Six Most Important Things" List has served me well, and I'd like to pass it along to you if you haven't heard of it or need a reminder about its effectiveness (since I've learned about it, it has worked for me).

Before bed, every night, write down the six most important things you need to get accomplished the next day -no more, and no less. Do not go on the next thing until you complete the first thing on your list, and so on.

I really think that if I get myself back in the habit of making my list, I will save so much time. So, every night before bed we are going to make our lists - are you with me?

Now, for good measure, I'm going to throw in some other challenges today.

Clear up your schedule issues

Our schedules are one of the domains God gave us to rule and subdue - we must not let it rule us. Figure our your "time wasters" and then execute a plan to regain your time. For example, computer time can be a huge time waster (blogging, perusing, etc.) We have to set limits, or we could spend hours wasting time. Here's what I'm going to implement:

  • No computer time while the kids are up (except morning video time)

  • During kiddos naps, set a timer for 20 minutes of computer time. When timer goes off, get to work!

  • In the evening, after the kiddos are in bed and if hubby is doing something else, then computer time. Do not neglect hubby!

"Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise - sensible, intelligent people; making the very most of the time - buying up each opportunity - because the days are evil." Ephesians 5:15-17

Let's get to work!

Now that we have our priorities set, our "six list" on the horizon, and we're working towards gaining back our time, let's get to work.

Going along with today's "Works for Me Wednesday" let's clean our kitchens well - including the refrigerator.

Before and after pics a must! I'll post mine - will you post yours? Use Mr. Linky below by posting your pics on your blog and then linking back. Can't wait to see!

Hi! Just checking back in. I have been really struggling/convicted about the amount of time I'm on the computer. Too many blogs, too little time! After making my blog rounds very early yesterday morning, I committed to the Lord that I would not look at another blog or check my blog again the entire day. Nothing until this morning. I made it. Whew! So, again today, I making my rounds and getting off the computer! Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement :)

These a some great ideas! Just this morning I was praying that the Lord would help me manage my time better today. I love blogging and the blogging community and I also have a mildly obsessive personality. That makes it difficult to keep things in their proper place.

Your ground rules are perfect and I need to think about what mine will be. Probably very similar to yours. Thank you! This is what I needed to hear today.

Oh - and I linked to your blog from my post today. This is going to be a great series!

I've never heard of the six list but think I may have to try it. I think I can get six things accomplished every day :)

This post is perfect for me today as I'm getting ready to change my routine when my kids are home from school. Just found your site from rocks in my dryer.

I do something similar but I don't limit my list, maybe I should- then I could actually get it all done. I like the priority management ideas also. I'm going to start useing a timers for blog time. Thanks!

I just started on the Life Giving Challenge- what a wonderful idea. I'll post something on my blog about it later today (after my other priorities are in order :) ) and I'll be checking back every day. Thanks for facilitating this!

I love the sink picture! I've been flying for a few years, but always fall off the wagon. :)
I have not heard of the Six List, but it sounds like something that would work for me. Computer time does seem to just suck the time away. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Thank you for this post in particular. I have some obsessions with the computer and internet..i'm working on it. But I love your rules with it and it just makes my whole battle more clear. I definitely agree with you on no neglect with family for the computer. I love this site!

okay, feeling a bit challenged. I am reading Day 2 tonight and plan to put into practice tomorrow. I do want to work on my kitchen. I am studying the Bible tomorrow with a girl that wants to be a Christian and so that takes priority (at least I'd say so, according to my list). So, my 6 list is important for tonight so I can really focus tomorrow. I am currently addicted to the computer. Since I am off in the summer I feel like I spend a lot of time online. (blogging, Blurfing (blog+surfing), checking email compulsively) I think I need to set up some SPECIFIC times to check email. That would be helpful. Okay, Thanks for the encouragement and I REALLY appreciate you keeping it real and posting your before and after pictures.

Rather than trying to catch up I'm following at my own pace. So glad to decided to put this all together.
