Imperfectly Beautiful - Stretch Marks

I tried to take a picture, but alas, I couldn't get a good one with the camera I have. Probably better anyway...

Over at the Nesting Place, the "Nester" put up a challenge of sorts to share something in your life that is "imperfectly beautiful." Here's mine:

Stretch marks

Why?

Because they are the signs of what my body has done to bring life into this world. This amazing body, imperfections and all, grew a life, nurtured it, and brought forth the most precious gifts I could have ever asked for - my babies. I thank God for this body of stretch marks, lumps and wrinkles (around the belly button). When I see my imperfect body, I will thank God for it, because it
is
imperfectly beautiful.

Preach it sister!

That is so right! We need to just have an imperfectly beautiful "body edition"! There are so many things in our life that we can choose how we see them--as a mess and feel bad about them, or as beautiful and serving their purpose!

Thanks for sharing!

There you go again. Being all sweet and thoughtful and right again. Sometimes I forget that God has made my body - stretch marks and all - and I lament the body that I've lost. But you're right, the stretch marks, the laugh lines, the grey hairs - well, those don't stay around for long ;-) - are all signs of a life being lived.

Have you seen that website that is all about accepting our post childbirth bodies? I forget what it is called "Something of a Woman" I think--except "something" is the wrong word.

I'm going to try to think of my stretchmarks this way! Good point. If I have to give up bikinis to have two beautiful children, well, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Love your blog! -Julia :-)

Since I haven't worn a two piece that shows my belly since I was FIVE, and don't plan on it EVER again, my stretch marks serve the same purpose they do for you...remind me that I once nurtured the little life of my not-so-little-anymore son. So sweet! But you couldn't pay me enough money to take a picture of them! HA!

I think I love you. Is that creepy? LOL

I agree with Nester, we need to have an imperfectly body edition (MINUS the pics *ahem*)

Wow - great way to look at them! (Plus, you get to keep the "proof" the rest of your life!) Nancy

I'll try to remember the beauty as I stuff the 4 inch overhang into my undies.

This made me feel really good. Although, I don't have kids, I do have stretchmarks. Lots of them. I gained a lot of weight in the last year or so. I have stretchmarks all over my thighs and I get so insecure about them. This made me feel a little bit better about myself. Thanks Sarah!

So inspiring! I haven't yet had the opportunity to earn my stretch marks. Looking forward to joining the club tho!

So glad I'm not the only "I wish!" voter on the poll!! Honestly, the IDHTBPTBB challenge is really reassuring--no one seems to be perfectly neat ALL the time like we assume they are. Aaaahhh....
I, too, take pride in the changes my 9 months of pregnancy resulted in. Our bodies are miracle-makers!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. What a wonderful post. I haven't always appreciated my stretch marks, but a few years ago I realized their significance and have felt a tidal wave of thankfulness for the miracle of childbirth and just being a woman.

Praise be. *grin*
